I hear all the time there is a teacher shortage. But i have friends who cant find jobs. Is there a teacher shortage or not?

There is a teacher shortage in the science/math areas and foreign languages. English and physical education are 2 areas I would advise students not to go into, very tough to find a job in those areas.

Depends on where you live, I imagine.
I'm not sure what the situation is here. I think they are expecting problems soon because of the demographics--a lot of teachers/principals are nearing retirement age. I don't think we have a shortage, but here, there's been no complain of a shortage, either.

sure I stay in Salt Lake city UT. each and every kind of instructor is critical right here, yet a lot of them go away because they are paid low right here and we've between the bottom in line with student costs fed./st. funding, so the typical public faculties are a mess. i imagine it really is a situation everywhere, no longer purely right here, although. instructors artwork truly problematical and do not get credit for it and could definately be paid extra. also the No baby Left in the back of application purely makes it tougher for instructors and faculties to do their jobs. i believe undesirable for them.

yes, at least where i teach. I teach at a small Christian school. Our school is a ministry of our church, and so we (teacher's) don't make much. It's hard to bring in new teacher's when you don't have much money to offer.
Just to let you know, I don't teach for the money. I love it:)
