the starter seems to turn over fine, lots of battery power. It will almost catch when I turn the key then it just revs the starter. It's a manual so I can pop the clutch when I get it rolling, starts no problem doing that. Five minutes later I will turn off the car and then turn it back on with the keys no problem

It sounds like the starter may be be turning, but the solenoid isn't kicking out to engage the flywheel. Id say take the starter somewhere and have it tested.

Sounds like the starter's kickout solenoid is sticking(or they call a bendix gear). If car is rather new, then get it checked out, and get that warranty honored.
