Every person living in a complex modern society will experience bad days once a while. So you are not alone. You should have mentioned more details for a more specific answer, as there are countless reasons for a bad day, depending on your gender, job, lifestyle, age, etc. Basically, you should practice calmness, speak to a few trustworthy persons who may give you the magic solutions and console you. Consider what is the worst that can happen if you misplace something you think is value, broke some artifacts, disappointed some person, or lose some money gambling, etc. What were some of the more unfortunate things that happened to you in the past, compared to now? Such consideration would make you happy again! Go for your favorite meal with someone today, and down a couple of beers. Get somebody to drive you today. Wish u have an enjoyable week-end! :-)))

Anytime possible, take a nap. This helps reset the brain chemicals, and get you into a balance again. Then, anything else you do to cheer yourself up will work better.
Music and exercise are natural highs. Tryo to go from slow movement and slightly depressing songs to faster and more upbeat.
Read the paper, or watch TNT. You'll feel much better to be a safe American.
Oh, and seriously, release the tears. Trying to keep them in builds up stress hormones, and they take a long time to excrete from the body. Cry, and you reduce them quickly. Just make sure you don't get a lot of positive attention for it, or you will cry for no good reason after a while.
Also, as soon as you can, do something for someone else. Forget about yourself a little bit. You can find an immediate reason to feel good about what you're doing and who you are, and you make or keep an alliance that might just get you through another hard time.

Crying IS a good way to let out stress or an overabundance of emotions. If you don't like crying just because you're feeling down, take an anti-social night. Grab a small helping of your favourite snacks, pick a movie or book you know will make you cry and laugh at the same time, and just remove yourself from the world for a couple of hours. Keep that tissue box on hand, indulge (don't over-indulge) in your comfort food. Sometimes you just need to feel crappy, and accept that your day was bad. Then the next day will hopefully be better, and you'll feel brighter for it.
My comfort foods: Fresh cherries, feta cheese in pita bread, mint tea, raspberries, dark chocolate with fruit, garlic chips, blueberries in cereal.

I think we have the same thing here.... In this process of life I often cry and cry and cry for so many silly and unimportant things, even I do realize that I am a man. But I also aware that cry is not the symptom of cowardness or whatsoever. But it's more about emotional expressions. Since I have such a painful and traumatic excess baggage from my past time, the things that could and might make me happy are nice mature friends, thing goes on in the supposedly its way, to forgive and forget all those people who pissed me off and not only to forgive but to wish them well. I know this sounds so corny but it's the truth.
I cheer up myself by listening to the music usually. Music that could reflect and represent my own feeling in that very moment. But besides that I often contemplate myself and look into my soul to see what's missing there.....

Yes, we all have those downer days and it helps to realize that is part of life. If you have a close friend to go visit and just talk about things, sometimes helps. If you can get physical, join a gym or going jogging. When you exercise you raise a hormone in your body that makes you feel happier. I am glad that you are searching for nature things to improve your mood.Good luck and feel better soon, life is good most of the time and when its not we learn to be compassionate to others.

Exercise. [takes a year to work fully], avoid stress, and chocolate and cocoa. Bliss. Oh and some beer.
And never argue with the wife. Just say, 'sure honey'. Haha.
