Yahoo messenger has one like that going around...all it takes is for one person to click on the link and it sends it to everyone on their friends list...it will also look like it came from you.
The best you can do is to warn your friends not to open any links from you until they askesd if you sent it first.

If it's in a link then the possablity is that is has been writen into the website that the link goes to, there are people who nothing else better to do with there time but to hack websites and put viruses in them.

Viruses generally.spread through emails. You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
