I like Guild Wars.

WoW is a very, very good "Everquest" or "Ultima Online" -- if you've played either of those games WoW will be very familiar.

It's a great game world, and really well done. WoW was fun for the first 40 levels for me. But...

- It's got the "grind" problem: you have to put in hundreds of hours of killing monsters to reach the level cap and get the best gear. It gets pretty boring, camping the mobs and hoping for the drops.

- Play sessions are long. It takes at least an hour online to get anything done, and usually much more.

- Play styles are really limited. Tank, Healer, Nuker, DPS, Support, Crowd Control. Same 15 skills, used in the same order, for the whole game.

Guild Wars is different:

- It's got a huge world you can explore, but instead of just the usual unconnected collection of quests, there is a story that you follow through the whole game

- Play sessions can be as short as you want. Got 10 minutes? Cool, you can do a quest or play PvP, without travel time or waiting for other players for a group. Need a healer for your group? Grab a computer-controlled healer henchman, instead of begging someone from your guild.

- Every player has access to 200 skills -- not 15. My nuker can pick the right set of skills and be the *main healer.* You can play the game any way you want.

- There are a ton more roles to play in a group. Tank, Healer, Nuker, DPS, Crowd Control, Support -- also Anti-tank, Trapper, Anti-caster, Bonder, Kiter, Minion Master, Degen specialist, Invincible Monk -- the list goes on and on. And the fighting is *fast* and the tactics are key.

- There's no grind. Don't want to go through the quests? Cool, just create a level 20 character on day 1 and start fighting other players. But if you go through the storyline quest, you'll have good gear, good skills, and be at the level cap long before the end of the story.

- The PvP is more like a FPS and is intensely competitive. You can create a competitive character on day 1, without having to go through 4 level-60 characters in order to get competitive gear.

Hey, if you've never played EQ or any games like it, WoW is the best game like that ever. But if you're looking for something which takes less time and more brain, try GW. Start with Nightfall, if you buy it.

In my opinion World of Warcraft...

I have however been playing since launch... If you decide to buy WoW I suggest starting a character on a new server... If you join an established server you will run into the "outclassed in Battlegrounds issue" meaning I have 4 level 60's and a level 19 battleground twink....My twink has gear/ enchants you could never get as a new player to the server... On established servers alot of people have twinks and there is alot of anamocity from newer people coming onto the server complaining that it isn't fair etc... By starting on a newer server you can avoid this possible headache for you and those already estabished on the server...

I know it sounds greedy and callous but it's really not, I do get tired of hearing people complain about this or that being unfair but at the same time I can understand thier frustration at being outgeared... SoI say to avoid it go to a newer server if you decided to play...

As per the poster above it is against the TOS (Terms of Service) to bu or sell ingame gold or items for real world money... Yes people still do it but if you are caught you can have your account cancelled... Do it at your own risk knowing the consequences possible...

WOW is definitely better. Is it far more established and you can sell gold for real money through some sites.
