The Lions have played on Thanksgiving day more than any other NFL team (65 games), dating to 1934. Dallas has played in 37 contests since 1966. More on the history of Detroit and their holiday tradition can be found on the Lions' official site. Scores from every Thanksgiving game are also available.
I am not a Lions fan. This is a team with 1 playoff win since 1958!
But for some of those dedicated souls out there, this is the highlight of their season. Sure, I'd prefer seeing some of the better teams rotate this game or even better, the addition of an evening game with some meaning. However, being the NFL fan that I am and realizing the importance of tradition, I don't believe that changing it at this point would be much of a benefit.
People in Detroit plan their Thanksgiving around the football game, or at least I am led to believe this being from Wisconsin. It would take a while for another city and team to make that happen, should the game be taken away from the Lions. I hope it doesn't happen. I personally like tradtion.

I think they should have it no longer be a tradition, the Lions are horrible. I was at the Lions v Cards game last week, one of the most boring games I have ever seen. Not looking forward to watching them 2 weeks in a row.

Having to watch the Lions is like getting a rectal exam. Being a Lions fan is like finding out the doctor is a quack. I feel sorry for the Lions fans. They need a new owner.

Yes...keep the tradition in tact. Just because those teams, mainly the Lions, sucked the last few decades, you will never know if those teams will be 1 and 2 in the nfl soon. You can't throw away tradition just because of that.

Hell no. The NFL needs to change this to a rotating door or replace the Lions with a respectable franchise (e.g., Pats, Steelers, etc.).

there was a time when I didnt mind seeing the Lions on turkey day just because of Barry Sanders.
I think they should rotate and give every team a chance to play on turkey day...... it'll probably never happen though
