The thing that is so great about america is that you can decide what you want to particapate in and do. If you don't want to celebrate thanksgiving don't then, the holiday police aren't going to come after you. but think about the idea of thanksgiving, people comming together and being thankful for what they have, without buying presents or anything like that. Give thanksgiving a try, it is a great holiday!

Nobody's forcing you to participate. Have a regular day. Don't think about what you might be thankful for. Enjoy the peace and quiet while other people are doing their Thanksgiving thing with their friends and families.

You don't have to participate, that's the beauty of living in the USA. You are encouraged to practice your own customs.
BUT, if you think for one second that you are going to start changing holidays, I've got new for you. It ain't gonna happen. So tough it out, or get out!

I was born in america but my parents are from mexico yet we celebrate thanksgiving. Nobody forces anybody to do anything they dont want to do, its just a chance for the family to gather and give thanks for what they have. And if they dont whant to join in the holiday so be it. You can feel free to go about your day as if it was any other day.
