The Suez Canal, built jointly by france and exypt, and was originally run by the Suez Canal Company untill the Exyption government of 1956 nationalised the waterway prompting the Suez Canal crisis of the same year. The British and French governments both wanted to regain control of the area but had little pretext to do so in the end the Isreali's secretly agreed to ocupy the area so that the French and British forces could occupy the area in the guise of peackeepers and hence regain control of the area without actually declaring war on another state.
