When I'm offended by someones breath I just say, "I don't know what you ate, but I can't let you walk around like that so here, have a mint". I've never had anyone refuse the mint, gum, candy, whatever when I've said it like that. They take it with a "thank you". You have to offer it like you are doing them a favor. It is a favor anyway.

Dear Embarassed, A couple of things: Firstly, anything anyone tells you on here can NEVER be as good as going to a doctor. However, if you really don't want to, here are a couple of things you should know. If the discharge ever is yellowish, greenish or brownish, GO TO THE DOCTOR! It could be a sign of a serious (potentially life-threatening) infection. If the discharge is of a chunky, "cottage-cheese" like consistency you most likely have a yeast infection, and should go to the doctor. Never self-diagnose and self-treat, that is a very bad idea and you could make it worse. It sounds like what you are experiencing is a mucous-based discharge from your cervical "plug." Basically, over the monthly cycle the cervix, which is the entrance to the uterus, has a lining of mucous which changes in thickness and consistency according to the time in your menstrual cycle, to allow sperm in and/or to keep it out. Your body is simply "shedding" it's excess, again usually according to the phase in your cycle you are at. Some women however, consistently have shedding and unfortunately there really is nothing you can do about it. It should not be more than a teaspoonful of discharge if it is happening everyday, although you might notice more or less around the time of your period. This is normal and is a sign of a healthy bodily function, take solace in the health of your body! Although it is annoying, you shouldn't have to wear pantyliners with the "normal" amount, just wash your undies in hot water and soap with the rest of the laundry. I hope this helps and I would urge you to go to the doctor if you are really concerned.

So many possibilities.

The easiest is to keep doing what you've been doing with only one small addition. When she refuses the offer of a mint, or a stick of gum, simply look at her and say, "Please?"

She'll likely get the hint and may be a bit embarassed, but you'd rather she know, right? You're her friend, so you kinda have a responsibility to help her out. If she takes offense to it, you need only remind her that you don't want her to be told by someone else who won't be nice about it.

I'd want my friends to tell me. Even if they did, I don't know any of them that would be nice enough to offer me a mint to take care of it. I think you're a good person.

Let's put it this way, if you had a bugger hanging out of your nose wouldn't you be mad if she didn't tell you?????????? What if you started your period in white pants and people could see and she didn't "know how to bring it up"??????
C'mon, she's your best buddy, tell her that she needs to use mints or chew gum, just tell her. Don't make it seem all dramatic, just tell her she has bad friggen breath, I honestly think in the end she will thank you....it is okay to be honest in a nice way when you KNOW you are helping someone....you will find a way to do it right.....hey maybe yours smells too and she will tell you.....what a riot that would be!!!!! lol.
good luck...you will do it right, yo sound like a good friend and I bet she already knows you wouldn't just say it to be hurtfull!!!!!

Just always offer her gum when you are around her. That way, it wont be as bad, and you won't have to say? I don't know, but thats how I handled a similar situation, only she wasn't my best friend, just someone who sat close by. But I mean, you don't think she knows her breath stinks? I would know when I had dragon breath.

If she is really a friend then you should tell her and she should appreciate it . If she gets pissed off don't worry its because she is embarrassed. At least you would show you care by telling her. Also, she can go to the doctor and be treated, although there isn't much out there for halitosis however you spell it.

People do NOT get hints. It just causes confusion to intentionally be evasive.

Tell her a bunch of the great things about her and how what you're talking about isn't a big deal and won't affect your friendship BUT... (she'll hear the "but" coming) you have a friendly suggestion for her breath.

Tell her she has chronic halitosis and she may be sick or something. Possibly she has gum disease or rotting teeth. Send her to a dentist.
