The short answer is yes. You are changing a document after it has been signed. Not only is it illegal, but the bank might see the alteration and refuse to pay on the check, which will be a headache for the nun who wrote the check.
Either go to the hotel who's name appears on the check or get another check from the nun.

If YOU didnt write the check, and the check wasnt made out to YOU, then altering the check in any manner is fraud. Why? Because the owner of that money, did not issue the money (which is what a check REPRESENTS) to anyone but whom it was written out to. It doesnt matter WHO wrote it, a nun or jesus christ himself, if you alter TO WHOM it was issued, in this case, the hotel, then you are basically PRETENDING to be the person who wrote that check and thats fraud. You didnt write it, you only ACT as the GO BETWEEN. The check is written to SOMEONE ELSE, a SPECIFIC HOTEL- this is NO different than the check being written out to Sara Jane Doe, and you changing the name to John James Doe. Its fraud and the whole thing sounds odd and would sound suspicious to most people. If I were you and you cannot reach the person who wrote the check, then I would ask the hotel to whom it is issued, to CASH THE CHECK for you. To take the check and call the bank where the check was made and verify that there are funds in the account to cover it, and give you cash for it. TRY, they may understand and give you money, which is what a CHECK represents. So long as they can verify that THEY will be paid by the check, there shouldnt be a problem in cashing it.

Yes, the church is willing to pay for you to go to the hotel named on the check. You may not know why, but they may NOT be willing or able to do business with the other hotel. Respect the church and go to the proper hotel or don't use the check.

It will void the check. If you try to change anything on the check, it is considered fraud. If you cannot contact the person to write a different check for you then you can only use this check to go to the hotel named on the check.

Yes, it is fraudulent to do this. I worked in a bank for many years and attended fraud prevention classes that discussed this type of situation. I would try to contact the individual to have them re-issue the check to the correct business.

If it grew to become into made out ot you in basic terms spelled incorrectly all you had to do grew to become into to propose the two procedures on the decrease back of the cheque, besides the undeniable fact that in basic terms the guy who issued the examine is legally in a position to make any transformations to the the cheque itself, any changing via everyone different than who wrote it could make it grow to be null and void.

Unless you have authorization from the person who signed the check, it is unlikely that the new hotel will take the check. It is also unlikely that the bank would take it for a deposit.

YOU cannot change anything unless the check is yours. Since it belongs to the nice lady at church you are not allowed to alter the check.

Altering any item on a check written by someone other than yourself could be considered fraudulent. Advise against it strongly....

you are not the one who wrote the check you cannot change anything on it.
You would have to initial the change and you don't have signing authority for that church so your check would look suspicious and may not be cashable.
