I don't know about mascara, but I've read that constant use of an eyelash curler will eventually make your eyelashes more brittle.

No, it's just an old wives tale. Ignore it and use you're mascara like normal.
In case you didn't know, here's a couple of mascara tips:

Your eyelashes are like your hair and they are continually growing and losing old ones. Mascara doesn't make it go any faster as long as you are cleaning it off at night and be careful when curling.

To my knowledge no this is not true. Curling your eyelashes on the other hand, if not done properly can pull them out.
