When I was 6 I told my best friend that there was a ghost living in my attic and that I talked to it and it was my friend. She believed it for weeks. Perhaps not the lie that's had the biggest affect, but probably the one that's lasted the longest.

Oh wow, this is a toughy, hahahaha!!
I think when I was back in 8th grade some kid fell on top of me and I pushed him back up. Some teacher came over and pulled my ear and sat me down in a chair, threatened to suspend me. So I caught up with the rest of the class and I had tears streaming down my face. The kid that got me in trouble in the first place(by falling on top of me) asked what was wrong and I told him I got suspended. He started crying and everyone in my class was bummed cuz I was the class clown etc. To make a long story short, at the end of school I told everyone I was joking and then they all tackled me, lol.

That i was spending the night at my friends house.. but actually what happened, is we took out her car (no registration or anything.. she didnt even have her lisence yet).. and we drove it around. It ended up breaking down like 20 min (driving time) away from our houses and it was 4 in the morning and it was raining. We ended up hitch hiking home...
This isnt really a lie.. i just didnt tell my mom was really happened at my friends house that night lol.

There is no such thing as a "best lie" as lying can never be for the good.

my pal used to be a huge germaphobe, and you couldn't sneeze around her, or she would freak! it really pissed me off, she didn't let me come to her house when i had a cold! so one day i told her that we learnt in Bio class that Hemophlonatics in the air dissapates all the sneeze germs 1.34558 seconds after it hits the air, effectivly evaporating them. she totally believed me for like 5 years and her sneeze phobia was totally cured.

At a party once, I convinced someone, who I had no intention of talking to, that I understood no English whatsoever.
