Son painted creosote on the inside of a cabin door. Stinks. Need to seal in smell with something if possible. Last resort, replace door completely.

thats highly toxic, replace the door;

scrape off what you can and paint,'

don't sand;

beat advice is to replace since inside.

no it will have soaked through the timber all it is, is a timber preserver try just painting it maybe that will get rid of the smell other wise its a new door

put a coat of varnish over it that will seal it.
