It's by no means a tradition. We do because we've have the same carrier for the last 4 years. We give a card, and a little box of Sees Chocolates (4 pieces). I also give him bottles of water on hot days throughout the year. It makes it very nice to make friends with your Postal Carrier. He knows us on sight now, and watches our house when we're out of town (because we stop the mail). Also, he's just nice to talk to. We also give a gift to our UPS Driver, because we see him regularly and out Hair Stylist.

You could if he is a great mail carrier. But nothing over five or ten dollars. As government workers they really are not allowed to accept gifts as a compliment to their services.

my mom used to make a pie every year for the mailman. It is nice gesture (a gift), especially if you have lived there for a long while and the same mail carrier has been with you the whole time.

I do every year. A little holiday basket or a gift card is also nice. Just make sure you give it to the right person incase someone is covering your regular carrier's shift.

You don't have to, but I always do as I am an eBay freak as well as online shopping, so she brings TONS of packages for me all year long. I usually get a box set of cocoa, coffee, or chocolates or nice card with a gift card inside.

The one where I live isn't even the same from day to day and I rarely ever see them. How would you even get it to them? Where I am, that is impossible to do so due to how the mailboxes are setup. I don't think it's necessary unless you already know them and speak to them on a regular basis.

I don't because I live in a huge apt complex, and he or she does not come to my door- they deliver to a huge block of mailboxes down the block. If the mail was delivered directly to my door, I'd consider a tip of $5.00 to 10.00 to say thanks- and maybe a few more bucks if they gave really good service, ie delivering lots of packages.

The mail carrier who earns $50,000 a year and has great benefits? The mail carrier who expects me to worship him because he has to work in the rain and snow? The mail carrier who leaves my mail in the wrong box quite often? No, I did not give him a Christmas gift.
