I smacked it right where the IV was, and it hurt REALLY REALLY bad. Now there's a HUGE bruise. Should I be concerned?

A bruise IS actually broken blood vessels under your skin...I'm sure you just had the bad luck of hitting the area right where the little blood vessel is that was just healing from your recent IV. I would keep an eye on it --the bruised looking area should NOT keep getting larger now, if it does-you should probably have it looked at. But if it's not "growing" --you could put a little ice pack on it to see if that helps the pain.
Hope you heal quickly!

Unless it swells up and continues to be severely painful, I wouldn't be concerned. What you have is a very bad bruise, but it's still just a bruise. Since your vein was weakened by the IV needle, it burst open under the skin when you smacked it. It sounds gross, but the body can handle bleeding like that, and it should heal up in a few days.

I wouldn't worry too much. Put warm compresses on it for twenty minutes every couple of hours. It will heal up.
