This is my humble opinion, take it as you will

America overall is not ready to see women POW/MIAs, and they are especially not ready to hear about hundreds of them dying. This said, there are many women who physically could do the fighting, but there are many women who could not. The same goes with men, and the less strong men are used to drive vehicles or fly airplanes or do other non combat roles. Women could do these roles. Medical roles, cooking, flying and driving and doing whatever else non direct combat roles are available.

I am not trying to be sexist, but the fact is, no one would want to see their daughters drafted and sent to war. Some may society has yet to evolve, some may agree that it should never happen. Either way, at this time and place, women should not take place in direct combat roles, nor be drafted in the conventional sense.

If the need is great enough, and Iraq will not creat that need, but hypothetically, a special draft could be used to get women into jobs that are needed for them to do. But I repeat, they will not, nor should no, be sent into direct combat roles.

You know I'm not sexist, but thats my rambling for today

EDIT - CandyCane is right, a man would probably be distracted in worrying about his fellow female soldier's safety

Yes, women should be allowed in combat on a volunteer basis.
Assuming a draft, yes a percentage of the draft should be women. They enjoy an equal percentage of protection from the US military, and should be required to provide services commiserate with military needs and the positions women could fill outside of combat duty. As far as "have women fought long and hard for equality?".... I'll repeat what a very intelligent woman told me... Not all women are included in the feminist movement.. Equal pay for equal jobs YES, but not all women need to feel equal to men in every way.. just as all men will never be the equal of women in every way.

The US Army is a great army and respect to all those who serve in it.

I don't agree with the gender ban though.

I think that the oft-quoted example of the Israeli army reversing combat females had a lot more to do with the rising religious right in Israel than any real problems. Israel lived through it's most combat active times with female soldiers. If it were really a problem it would have been stopped when the pressure was on.

I am not a supporter or opposer of Israel by the way, just have an interest in military affairs and it is the oft-quoted example on this topic.

To those service servicemen, I can appreciate your conservatism. You are laying your lives on the line in one of the few nations that very regularly see combat, you are bound to be cautious of any change whatsoever, it's your life that people are playing with.

For this reason I think segregated units would be a good intermediate step. It would give women a chance to prove themselves without stressing out those who pledge their lives to their nation.

When women prove themselves, as I have no doubt they will, integration should be done in a way that leaves both men and women comfortable.

1. I don't agree with women being in combat. There have been a few studies on this concluding that due to the major differences in hygiene, it was very unhealthy for a female to be put in the field for long lengths of time.

Separate from that, I still am just not comfortable with having females in combat going up against opponents that are physically stronger. I know there are women out there that can hold their own but they are rare and in-between.

On a personal note, I say, "Let the men kill each other." After all, they always do start the mess in the first place.

2. No women should not be drafted. I know some men fuss about this but I am of the mind-frame to be careful what you ask for. Imagine WW2 if women had gotten drafted. We would have had a mess at home. We need the women to take care of the home front.

Equality doesn't make a woman into a man. No, women shouldn't be drafted into the army anymore than men should get pregnant. Men and woman can be equals even thought one pees standing up and the other sitting down.
We need equality between the sexes, but we need to celebrate the differences as well.

Women are in equal to men in their ultimate life value, not for every single ability that men have.

Men and women have very different innate abilities and qualities that are what make them 2 different sexes, whether the homosexual movement thinks so or not; it is basic human nature and to think or act otherwise will continue to make our society conflicted and disordered.

That being said, woman should be drafted alongside men, but not with the same numbers as men or with the same duties.

This is not a politically correct statement because the truth is not always politically correct.

My mom has mentioned that she believes that's the real reason the draft hasn't been delivered back. as a manner to stay away from discrimination, women folk might additionally ought to be drafted and there are too lots of people who do in comparison to that concept. I admit i think there is yet another excuse it hasn't been delivered back. throughout the time of the Vietnam conflict, the nationwide take care of gadgets have been used as a manner for the wealthy and effective to maintain their own sons out of attempt against. Now, those gadgets are crammed with generally happening human beings and expelling them to make room for the wealthy teenagers might reason a significant public outcry and be a public kin disaster.

I don't think they should be drafted unless we're seriously at risk of losing and being overrun by the enemy here in the States. But if women want to fight in combat, they should be allowed to. I think they can be tough enough to endure that environment if they train for it.

Can you imagine a squad of terrorists being captured, and then finding out that half the team that caught them was made up of women? Or that a woman was in command of the squad?

I'm against the draft but if women choose to, they should be allowed to join combat units. It should be their decision.

Personally I have never felt women should be allowed in combat, for this simple reason:when a soldier is in a heated situation,it is natural for a man to be concerned and distracted by a woman. Is she safe,is she ok?Its just normal for a man to protect a woman,I think the distraction could cost the life of another soldier. However, the feminists pushed for equal rights and they got it,yes they should be drafted.
