There's a wax ring that seals between the toilet and the sewer pipe that needs to be replaced occasionally. Turn off the water, flush the toilet, undo the mounting bolts on either side, remove the toilet, replace the wax ring with a new one from HD or Lowes and remount the toilet. Should be good to go.

It's the wax seal that is leaking.

It's real easy to fix but it's messy. You need to drain the tank completely and also the bowl. Then disconnect the water supply and undo the nuts that hold it to the floor.

From there you will see a stinky mess in the floor pipe. You need to clean out all the wax and yuk but it's doesn't have to be spotless. Just get the majority out. Do the same for the bottom of the toilet and then put a new wax seal down and carefully set the toilet back down over the ring. Be careful not to hit the ring.

Then sit on the toilet and wiggle a bit to set the ring. Then just put the nuts back on snug but not too tight. Just so they are firm, you don't want to crack the porcelain. Re-connect the watter supply and you are ready to go.

A plumber will do the same thing but will charge you about $100 to $200 bucks.

It's pretty easy but messy and the toilet is heavy.

It sounds like your wax ring may be worn enough to only leak under pressure when flushing or perhaps water is traveling down from its reservoir tank to the floor. Try not using the toilet for the day and when doing so put some color dye (food coloring) in the reservoir tank and see if the color is finding its way on to the floor if not, then it is reasonable to believe it is coming from the wax ring at the base of the toilet and floor.

First, SLOWLY AND VERY,VERY CAREFULLY, snugged the nuts that secure the toilet to the floor bolts. But do it gradually and equal turns on each side, so you do not crack the porcelain. If it still leaks, you will need to replace the wax seal where the toilet meets the drain standpipe. The old seal will need to be scraped off and the areas cleaned and wiped off. Then replace the ring, put the toilet back on, sit on it to press the wax down, resnug the nuts and try it. Snug up the nuts some more, GENTLY, if needed.

If your drain pipe isn't partially stopped up it is your towel bowel ring between the toilet and pipe it is made of wax which wears out over time. You are going to have to change it. No hard.
First turn off water to your toilet bowel. Then flush to get the water out. Next use towel to get remaining water out.
You have to remove the toilet two screws one on each side of the toilet. Take old toilet bowel ring out. Clean old wax off both toilet and flange. Put new ring in. Put toilet back on and tighten down.

There might be a crack in the base of the toilet, the wax seal may be having issues, or a pipe may need attention.

Broken toilet. Um, if your boyfriend has time and is good with his hands then he could fix it. Like I could and I'm a carpentar. If not call a plumber. Though, there's not too much could go wrong *if* it's on the ground floor and there's nothing below it.

unsrew the 2 bolts and remove the toilet, pull off the wax ring and lay down a new one, it cost about 4.00 at homedepot, and will take you about 15 min to fix.
