You are protected with paypal, You can always claim your money back if you don't receive the item, always look at the persons feedback to see how reliable they are, buy low value items ie 99p to get the expereince of trading!!

visit www.moneysaving.com and look in the ebays board...... there is loads of help there - I am a board advisor :)

Electronic gadgets are the most-scammed items on eBay. Newbie sellers attract scammers like blood in the ocean attracts sharks. This is a scam. Add the guy to your blocked bidder list and ignore. It will probably happen again with someone else. Just block and ignore. I hope you have the auction set up to block foreign bidders, buyers without a Paypal account, buyers with 2 unpaid item strikes in the last year, and so on. I can't emphasize enough that newbies ought not be selling high-value items on eBay. Search this site for "eBay" questions and you'll find out why. Just a few hours ago I was telling an experienced online (but not eBay) seller that he has lost $4800 in an unauthorized transaction scam on Paypal. The extreme likelihood is you will lose your phone and your $450 on eBay. Try craigslist instead.

i guess the truthful answer to that is.... you cant!! Trust is the main part of buying on Ebay, but unfortunately there are a few people out there that scam every day. I recently bid for some trainers. They were for my daughter and she was chuffed to bits when i won them. Granted they were a low price, but with no reserve. Ten minutes later I get an email saying the trainers should have had a reserve therefore she would not now sell them to me as they were too cheap. I had already paid through paypal, and she now also refuses to refund me. I guess u learn by your mistakes!!

the people you buy from will have a rating.
you can check their rating and their history if they have bought and sold 100 things and all the people that have dealt with them have given them good feedback chances are they wont be scamming you. Ebay does have certain rules and regulations too.

As eBay often wipe their hands of it. The only way is not to buy off eBay. Be warned its worse than a car boot sale on there!

No certain way to be safe. there are cowboys out there. Best you can do is read all the small print, check the seller, use ebay/paypal, and if in UK use a credit card.
