I would not ever get the flu shot, but I definitly would not get it while pregnant. They tell you not to eat tuna because of the mercury but then tell you it is ok to inject it into your veins??? It makes no sense. If you are healthy you can easily fight of the flu if you happen to get it, which is much rarer than you think. Contrary to popular superstition being pregnant does not decrease your immune system.

The thing is the flu shot will keep you from getting a "serious" case of the flu. Anyone who has the shot can still get it, but it's usually on average around 50-60% milder than the normal flu virus. They recommend the flu shot for pregnant women (past the 1st trimester) to keep the from getting too ill during pregnancy. Every year over a thousand people die from the flu in the US and in the past 3 years (when the flu shot has become more evolved and more available) none of those had been vacinated. It was worth it to me! I am getting mine next week.

With my first pregnancy I did pass on it (recommended from my doctor) because it's best to past the 1st trimester for it and it was march by the time that came around anyways.

GOOD LUCK!

Hey There!
I just had a baby 16 months ago..and then again 4 months ago..and both of the babies were during the same timeframe (conceived late October early November..yes...hubby's Birthday--he got a CD this year!!!) :) Anyway, so that was the beginning of the flu season and my Doctor (who's normally a more natural peres on) was very pro-flu shot and I got it both times. She says we are high risk for the flu when we are pregnant.

I was completely fine and I have two fo the most perfect, beautiful healthy baby girls.

Good luck with your decision!

I did get it. I didn't want to take the risk. It was actually the first time I'd EVER gotten it. Women who get the flu while pregnant get it much much worse and can even die from it.
The only reaction I had was my arm hurt for a day afterward. I figured it was irresponsible of me to not get it because I'm not worry about just me right now I have to think of how getting the flu would affect the baby.

I don't even work out of the home and have no other children at home and decided to get it.

I have never gotten the flu shot and never will-I don't believe in it. I am 8 months by the way. I have had the flu 2x in my life-when I was 15 and then 4 years ago=and I work in healthcare and am exposed to people who have the flu-and I am 36.

If you are past your first trimester, then it's all right to get the 'flu shot. It's recommended that a pregnant woman receives the shot in order to be protected from the virus.

I'm 31 weeks and got my 1st flu shot ever 2 weeks ago. My husband is a paramedic/firefighter and brings germs home all the time (ha ha) so I thought maybe I needed it.

It really hurt! REALLY HURT! Not the needle but the injection!

I didn't get any immunizations while pregnant because it's a USAF policy and I was active duty at that time. The flu shot will not prevent you from getting ill. Just follow the universal cautions (handwashing). I had undiagnosed rhuematic fever with my youngest and he suffered no ill effects.

Yes, I got it. And it was the 1st time I had ever had one. Just a sore arm afterwards, but that's better than possibly getting VERY sick. My huband's a pilot and so I thought it'd be a good idea since he's around SO many people! It's perfectly safe and a good idea! No, It DOESN'T hurt at all.........unless an inexperienced person injects you or you're a MAJOR baby!!!!!
