Well for a manor and country hall style, i would NOT suggest wearing the chinese dress. The reason, is there is a slight possiblity others will dress posh and extremely formal for this occasion and location of it.
So, when choosing for a dress go for a simple black style and dress up upon this, perhaps a glittery shrug, diamainte necklace and elegant satin heels. At least you can take these off if you feel over dressed...

i think a chinese dress can look elegant, but not over the top, it depends a lot on accessories, and not over doing it. I think also it will look a little different, which is good. Take some jewellery with you, and if it is a formal do, then dress your outfit up. Hair down looks less formal, so if you take some hair clips with u and if it is indeed a little more formal, pin up your hair. Flat shoes for less formal, high heels to look more elegant. Have a lovely time, and im sure you will look great

The Oriental look is very elegant and always in style. Those dresses are very comfortable and look great. You can dress it up with assessories or dress it down by wearing plain black shoes/purse. I actually wore an Oriental dress when I got married and the pictures look great. Remember one thing though.....its not really what you wear that's so important at functions, it's how you act. Have a merry Xmas and a great time at your dinner and dance!

If you have the figure to carry a slinky oriental style dress, then wear it. It is bith posh and also formal, so should suit the occassion.
Most importantly, have fun.

Why not? I think these sorts of dresses can work either way and so you would look great!
Alternatively, if you're still a bit worried, do you have any female colleagues you could chat about what you plan to wear with?

It depends, if the dress isnt ankle-lenth then its okay. If it is, go in another dress because the ankle-lenth dress seems a little over the top for dinner and disco. Remember, you can't go wrong with a little black dress.

if you dont wanna go over dressed try to stay in between too dressy and too casual. like a simple black dress with a big belt around the waist or some pants ( no jeans) a dressy shirt and some pumps

i love those dresses.. they are soo pretty!.. i think that it would be perfect.. maybe wear a cute cropped blazer over it (velvet?)... that way you won't be cold and it will make the dress look a little less formal.. AND this look is very in-style!

I think that you will look great if you wear a chinese dress. If you feel great in it you will probably look great too.
