It is certainly not fine dining.
They fit into the national trend of casual dining.
Lone Star
Fridays
Ruby Tuesdays
Olive Garden etc.
Applebees has worse food than most in my opinion. But the white chocolate blondie is the best desert from a chain that I have ever eaten. I routinely stop in at happy hour and have a glass of wine and the blondie.
I also eat at other restaurants often. I then stop there only for the blondie and an irish coffee.

Casual dining, maybe falling into another category: fast-casual, as there are some people who inform the server that "I'm in a hurry, what can you recommend?" I'd recommend that restaurant down the street with the golden arches.
And I really love the one who tell you that they're in a hurry, but they order a steak extra well done! Morons...

it is considered out of business in my town ........ I talked with the owner and he says it is the only applebees to ever lose money ....they shut it down ....they are on the way out .the food is piss poor and 99 percent of it comes out of a microwave oven

Don't really know what they call themselves these days. My "personal" opinion is that they suck!!! Could we possibly come up with more "lite" menu items? I think Weight Watchers must have bought some stock or something.
