and if they are the same thing, why does it have two names? (by dressing i don't mean the kind you might put on salad)

I would agree with suegazpay, my family always called it stuffing (northern) and my in-laws call it dressing, they are southern.

Im pretty sure dressing a turkey is the seasonings or broth you put on the turkey before cooking if for flavor (if you choose to put any type of seasonings on it.) Stuffing is stuffing a turkey with well stuffing! and cooking it in the bird instead of outside... i prefer stuffing from a box! =]

Stuffing - crammed in the fowl, dressing - cooked separately. Dressing continually appeared outstanding to me– style of– why worry? they're in many circumstances used interchangeably immediately, in basic terms like "yam" and "candy potato" that are extremely 2 thoroughly separate issues.

Stuffing is stuffed inside the turkey/chicken
Dressing is made by it self served separately
they can both be made the same way.

dressing is a creamy or watery topping to put on salads and other foods.

I'm guessing it's like the difference, if any, between dinner and supper - dependent on preference or point of view.

I believe that dressing is what you dress your turkey in, ( I like it in a tank-top and shorts) j/k. and stuffing is what you stuff up the turkey's buttocks. keepin it real for real for real....jarrod
