Uh... almost what everyone above me said, but in reverse.
A transexual is (usually) someone who has had, or is pursuing, surgical alteration of their genitalia to match those of the sex he or she is transitioning to, and always someone who is living full time in that chosen gender. A few consider themselves "no-op" and aren't seeking the surgery but are otherwise the same. (This option is more common among ftm transexuals, and I think part of it is due to the inadequacies of ftm GRS.)
Transgender includes transexuals, and is often the preferred term for those who go with 'no-op,' but it also includes crossdressers and transvestites (men or women who only dress as the opposite gender part time.)

A transexual is person who feels that their biological gender does not match what they feel they are. Specifically a man who actually feels that they are a woman, or a woman who belives that they are male. These people sometimes take steps such as hormone replacement and surgery to correct their problem. Transgender is the catch all label for people who are transexual, crossdresser, transvestite whatever the case may be.

I hope this helps clear some things up fomr you-
Transgender -
An umbrella term used to describe anyone whose gender identity or expression situates them differently than the traditional societal gender role they were assigned at birth. Some of the countless categories lumped together under this term include :
Crossdressing
DRAG
Transgenderism
Transsexualism
androgyny
and many varitations between these larger groupings.
Transgendered -
[adjective] Should be used to describe someone, not to label them as an object -- as a noun. Iincorrect usage: "I saw three transgenders walking out of Nordstrom yesterday."
Correct usage: "I saw three transgendered people walking out of Nordstrom yesterday."
To have a cross-gender identity in one form or another.
Originally, this word meant (1) what are also known as full-time cross-dressers or nonsurgical transsexuals, people who live and work in the [other] (of their physical anatomical) [sex], continuously and for always. Now it also means (2) the group of all people who are inclined to cross the gender line, including transsexuals, cross-dressers, and gender benders together. This is the main way the word is used today, and is referred to as the "umbrella definition as it covers everyone. A few [people] use the word transgender as (3) a synonym for transsexual.
Transsexual -
Someone who wishes to take all the steps necessary to be accepted as completely as possible in their chosen gender
Transsexual is by far one of the most widely confused and misused words or definitions often selected to describe the various ”Trans” people or groups. A transsexual is a person who has been determined by medical professionals to have been born into the wrong body, sexually. These are people often seek professional assistance to have their body surgically changed so that it matches their brain’s GENDER identity. No one knows why people are born this way, but the fact remains that they are. This group isn't satisfied just to wear the clothes of the opposite sex, they want to become anatomically the opposite sex.

Here's the information in very quick and plain basic definitions.
Transgendered- Someone who doesn't live by society's description of gender and sex. Masculine women, feminine men, some cross-dressers, people who feel they are a mixture of both genders, who feel they are neither gender, or a 'third gender', some intersexed individuals.
Transsexual- Someone who undergoes genital surgery and hormone therapy in order to live life as the 'opposite sex'. For example, a man who has a sex change and lives as a woman, or vice-versa. Transgenders, on the other hand, neither do nor want to surgically change their sex, although they may act in a manner that society deems as the 'other sex'.

It's not a stupid question. Most people get confused about this. A transsexual is someone who has had or is planning a sex change.
Transgendered is more of a gray area. I would say someone who identifies with or presents themselves as the opposite gender, but is not interested in a sex change, is transgendered. There's a lot of wiggle room when it comes to this one, though.

Gaited horses, such as tennessee walkers, paso finos, kentucky mountain horses are naturally gaited and have a very smooth ride (hence the riders holding a glass of Champagne without spilling it while they ride across the arena). These horses do not trot. Other horses, like TB's QH WB Drafts, arabians are trotting horses. These horses to do not gait.
