As several other people have said do not polish the coins. Today's numismatic market devalues coins that have been cleaned.

Fifty or Sixty years ago it was a little different but today it is a big no no.

First of all vinegar and baking soda do nothing good in the long run. And second, I asked a question about this to a dealer a few years back because I was curious about my half dollars and silver dollars. He told me that if I polish a coin, weather it is of value or not, it diminishes in value big time if polished. If you coin has oxidization on it, that is acceptable among coin collectors, it shows the age appropriately.

brasso, a mild abrasive, would deface and scratch a coin. as others have said, do not clean or polish any coin that you collect.

I thought there were some coins that were supposed to be left unpolished for the best value. Better check with a numismatic.......you know, coin guy.

never ever never ever- polish shine buff or do anything to a coin...

you lose 90% of its value of more........................

don't do it.......
a coin that is dirty--is worth far more in its original state than some altered polished coin...................

coin graders will not even grade a altered coin.
