Nuclear weapons prevent a full scale war between two superpowers, as in the end, no one country can really win. However, nuclear weapons do increase the possibility of two superpowers fighting it out through 3rd parties (Vietnam, Korea, Soviet occupation of Afghanistan). Overall, I believe that the bomb has decreased, but not eliminated, war. This discussion applies to nuclear powers fighting nuclear powers, and is void when any party involved in the conflict does not possess nuclear weapons (Falkland Islands, Afghanistan, Iraq).

I think its more likely to bring war. The countries today, including USA, wage war over anything. if some dropped the atomic bomb on us, don't you think we would go to war? I don't know about other countries though, they might retaliate and they might not.

It's sad that we need atomic weapons to scare the rest of the world, but it is a must! Not to be used though.
