Knowing who and what we really are. The most difficult thing for us to do is to just be ourself. From the moment we are born culture pressures us to conform to a pre-conceived concept of who and what we should be: To make us a product of cultural programing and packaging. But to see and live (understanding awareness) through this (and our own ego) is to become enlightened...to live in the ever-present. Thus in knowing who and what we really are, we are no longer centered in the past (ego), in sensory perception and duality, but remain free (nonsensory) in spirit without any attachment to or conflict with culture (the world outside of us).

To uncover is enlightenment. Uncover what? Your true identity, your true nature. And what is your true nature? Divine Love.
— Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Oh and by the way, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar taught George Harrison, of the Beatles, how to play the sitar!!!!
And also.....
By the age of 17, he obtained an advanced degree in Modern Physics, and later received an Honorary Doctorate from Kuvempu University, Karnataka, India. At an early age his father, R S V Ratnam delegated him to the care of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a renowned spiritual master. After attaining his degree in science, Ravi joined Maharishi's entourage, taught the Vedic pundits at Maharishi's charities, and soon became the Maharishi's favourite disciple. In 1982, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar went into ten days of silence and emerged as an enlightened master.

In the allegory of Plato's cave, the enlightened one made it outside, and began to see outside the world of shadows and puppets; he ventured into the world of blinding light. He saw everything clearly, as it was, for the first time. He became enlightened.
He felt that he must go back to cave, and teach what he saw, even though he knew he would be called a fool, ostracized, and possibly killed for his newfound knowledge.
That is what it is to be enlightened. To finally see things clearly and in a proper prespective befitting mankind.
Plato was teaching us is that to become enlightened also means that you have to teach what you have learned, no matter the consequences, otherwise what good is enlightenment?

" Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-incurred immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's own understanding without the guidance of another. This immaturity is self-incurred if its cause is not lack of understanding, but lack of resolution and courage to use it without the guidance of another. The motto of enlightenment is therefore: Sapere aude! Have courage to use your own understanding!"

Having reached a state of Peace with my philosophies.
That is not to say all questions have been satisfied, I don't believe that is possible in this life. Having finally understood that fact has helped me reach that state of Peace.
