I keep seeing this 8-10 story ship under the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, especially on my evening commute. I haven't seen it in over a month, but for much of 2006, I saw it at least twice a week. It's got white structures on top, no ramp I could see, and I couldn't see port registry on the back or flags on deck. Moves at a nice clip, too.

Here are some particulars about the MV Texas Highway.

IMO number: 9272890
Name of ship: TEXAS HIGHWAY
Call Sign: JMVY
Gross tonnage: 55458
Type of ship: Vehicles Carrier
Year of build: 2003
Flag: Japan
Status of ship: In Service
Registered owner: KAWASAKI KISEN/TAIYO NIPPON

The ship is a car carrier, who trades between Japan and the United States, bringing loads of brand new cars over from Japan.

Sometimes, when she goes back East, she will take scrap metal back to Japan, as she will be empty after discharging her cargo of cars.

She will have 2 ramps om her, the one on the stern being the easiest to recognise, but she also has one on her Port side, and it is right in the middle of the ship.

That ship is classed as a RO-RO. Roll On, Roll Off, commonly referred to as a Car Carrier. Ramps are located on the stern, and amidships, Stbd side.
