Stay away from sugar and fat during your cycle, it can make you crabby and bloated. Drink ALOT of water, take ibruprofin for cramps (it's a muscle relaxer), use a heating pad on your belly or back for cramps, and get a good amount of sleep at night.

ALWAYS keep a pad in your purse. When your period first starts, it may be irregualr. You do not want to be out and cought without a pad when you need it! Also, keep a purse calander in your bag~~~Circle the date your period starts, and mark each day you are bleeding. This will give you an idea over the months of how long your period will typically last. The day your period starts is day 1--count forward 27 days from day one and mark a small '27' above that date. .. then mark day '30' as well. This will give you an idea of when to expect your period. I notice that one month I'll get mine on day 28, the next month day 31. It goes back and forth. This will help you when it comes to planning a trip to the beach ("Hey, let's go the third weekend of June instead of the 2nd weekend"), etc. And when you are married, it will help you know when you are fertile, so you can plan or avoid pregnancy.

Good luck!!!

if you are having cramps take midol or advil, other than that you should be okay. Always carry a spare pad or tampon in your purse, your cycle is going to change as times go on so you should keep track of it so you can guess which week you may start. You should also discuss this with your mom-she's going through the same thing and will give you many tips and information. Welcome to 40+ years of cramping, bloating and accidental leaks!!! But it gets better w/ time.

welcome to womanhood! it's a blessing and a curse! anyway, now's the time for you to decide what products you prefer. personally, i prefer tampons, because they're much more comfortable for me than pads. you should try out a few different kinds to find one that works best for you. when starting out using tampons, it would be a good idea to also use a panty liner just in case your flow is heavier than you expect it to be. there will be lots of trial and error, but you'll get the hang of it. congrats and good luck!

Do you have pads or tampons? Remember to change your pad or tampon every 4hrs more or less depending on how much you are bleeding.
