What is the song Philidelphia Freedom about? I have always wondered.

i think its from the perspective of someone who became detached from the world becoming part of it again by seeing the history of liberty in the US and more specifically philadelphia. it was written and distributed right before the us bicentenial in "the cradle of liberty", philadelphia

From the lyrics, it seems to be about someone who was fired up and patriotic in his youth, but has mellowed with age to the point where being practical was more important than following lofty ideals.

The city of Philly makes a good backdrop given its historical nature. ie. Independence Hall, the Continental Congress, the Liberty Bell, etc.

this was about billie jean king who was a female tennis plater who once played for the Philadelphia Freedom of the world team tennis league in the seventies
