I was playing a game i downloaded and after changing a setting i pressed start and the computer restarted
now i have gone into system properties and start up and recovery and unticked"automatically restart" to avoid any future restarts
however this is my question 1) did i do the correct thing by unticking the above and 2) why did this happen,,,i have played hundreds of games and this is the first time this has happened,is it a display error or what?
cheers

This happens to me a the time, it restarted because on some games they require Direct X to load up as soon as the game starts and others do not. Depending on what your computer was doing it may have been slow. Or Its a Video Card / Driver error, make sure they are installed the right way. Also, i would leave that box unchecked because if you were to get a virus into your computer, it would restart the computer then load up and restart again (it would go into a restart loop)

this is not a easy to solve but bare with me should understand when im done.. your computer is crashing what you are getting is the new age blue screen of death.. basicly you have a conflict. first thing i would do is check for updates. next virus checks. also in the thought here have you changed anything maybe adding something new (i know this almost sounds stupid but a lot of people over look the simple stuff) after at the point of hardware and software conflicts in short maybe the game does not like something about your video card or directx try a older or newer one(newer would be better) all else fails on that point go into your console the mmc you may need a friend or someone you know to under stand the console and what it all means ( the console will show you the issue you are having ) everthing reports back to it.. i had a issue like yours when i start with vista few weeks later there was a bug and it was fixed (if you woundering my vista is beta)so take that for what it is worth
hope this helps you out .. if all else fails go to the game company website and see if thay have a forum you have a point that can help you out.. not really knowing the game you play there is come small twinks thay can help as well...

If this happens again copy the message from the "Blue Screen of Death" and google it. The long error codes are traceable and will give you a good idea what went wrong. If you cant wait, you could also look in the event viewer under administrative tools. Look for red system errors and google the event id for more info.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
