It's ok new mom. Don't worry to much about it. All newborns go thru this crying stage. Some more than others. It's normal for a new baby to cry in the beginning because they are just getting use to their new surrounding's. Since your little girl seems to be getting hoarse right away it seems her lungs are pretty strong to begin with. I know it might seem like to much to deal with right now, but you really need much patients. It sounds as if the child might be a bit colic. Normally it will last for about 1-3mth then pass if this is the case. Try not to pick her up right away. She will get use to that. First check for wet diaper, straining to poo, feeding, or if baby needs a good burp, might be gas. She might just need you to play with her and give her some attention. Remember crying is their only way of communication with us, so we can only do our best. Also something good to keep on hand is 'gripe water' I use the alcohol free myself, and 'baby oval' for gas relief if necessary. It really helps. So try not to be afraid. I'm a new mom too of a 4mth old boy and he is just fine. Take care, you will be great.

RE:
Is it normal for my newborn to cry herself hoarse?
My daughter is 12 days and when she cries after about 2 minutes she will cry herself hoarse and will have this hoarse cry. This is my first child so it's scaring me a little. Someone tell me should I be concerned?

Have you looked into the possible causes of such harsh crying? NO baby, especially a baby that young should cry to the point of being hoarse. Two minutes might not seem long to you but it is for a baby that young. If you can't find a cause you should take her to the pediatritian and find out. In baby boys if you let them cry for a prolonged period of time and so harshly they can develop a hernia in their scrotum. So..it's definitely very bad for a baby boy to cry in that manner, but also for girls too. Poor baby! Something is definitely not right. I sure hope you find out what is the cause and get it taken care of. Good luck to you. I know it must make you crazy to see your baby cry like that. It's more than likely nothing serious but I would be looking for the underlying cause. Good luck to you, and Congratulations on your new little one!

You should be concerned. The only time I heard my daughter cry herself hoarse is when she was a little over a year and throwing a fit because she did not want to take a nap. It is not healthy for them to be doing that. At the yound age of your daughter, there is something wrong. You have to look at when your daughter does this. See if she is in discomfort, hungry, or pain. Contact her doctor. To cry alot is one thing, but to do it to the point where she has works her throat dry can cause serious damage if done over and over again.

Is she hungry??? Maybe just tired.. It's very normal though.. You just need to find out what she's crying about.. Maybe she needs to be fed or burped or changed.... If that's not the case then I suggest you put her in the crib and let her cry for a little bit! It sounds harsh, but it's really not... And, I know that everybody says not to put babies on the belly , but I did and my kids were sleeping through the night at 1 mth.. It makes them feel like their still in the womb and that's very comforting to them.... Good luck to you and have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
