I have, and I really hate it. Many times people talk down to me and expect that I do not speak English. This even occurs in My English classes. I usually have the top score in all of my English classes, yet other students, whenever we have group work, talk slowly to me, and assure me not to worry about the work. This upsets me a lot. Firstly, because their (the members of a certain group) analysis papers (This is usually what we do in Literature class) are terrible, and their grammar is as well. (I don’t mean to sound high and mighty, but I work as an English Tutor and know what a good paper is) Whenever I do group work, I usually end up doing all of the work, and the other members get credit. Once, after I gave a presentation, I was told that I was lucky to have such a smart partner because I would share in the grade as well. He didn’t eve do anything except stand there!

Yes, I have been underestimated. But the key to it is how you respond. If you respond with anger and animosity, you will only fuel the fire. Remember, you know in your heart who you are, and if people do not take the time to get to know you or to see the awesome value in you, then it is their loss. God has made you a very special person. Never forget that.

I have, by my avatar.
In real life I hate it too. People walk past and get a bad expression of me without seing what's really inside, I'm a really nice guy if you get to know me better.
This is what nut gobbler would do in your case, speak up. Don't be shy, you need to tell people how you feel and your not dumb. Do not let yourself do all the work, inform a teacher or give them parts to do for the work.

Oh that was just too rude!
I, myself, have been sorely underestimated at times.Like when I was 5 or 6 yrs old & my step father used to tell ppl I was retarted!
I might LOOK retarted, but many of us do!
It is a shame that we cannot all be treated fairly in this supposedly advanced day & age!

I don't mind being underestimated. It offers me the opportunity to show people that I an capable of anything I decide to do, but it also helps to break racial stereotypes.
