What was the big beef between Clay Aikens and Kelly Ripa when he was co-hosting the show with her yesterday?

It was not only the whole hand over the mouth thing that bothered Kelly, but Clay was extremely disrespectful during the entire show. I was watching it while getting ready for school and due to Clay's childish and combative manner, I was exhausted ten minutes into the show. It seems that Clay thought it was his show and that he should get full attention. Throughout the show he constantly put Kelly down to raise his own ego. It was ridiculous. I feel bad for Kelly, because she is being mocked by the public although she was respectful and professional throughout the show.

Rosie O'Donnell blew the whole thing out of proportion saying Kelly was being homophobic.
