I would really like to learn both because I believe they are both very important to each other as a pair. Which one should I learn first? Does it matter? My dedication level to either one will be the same, which is a lot of dedication. I really want to learn.

I am a violinist, but i would definatley say start with the viola. For the viola, you have to learn all 3 different clefs, G, F, and C. This means that it would be more work to begin with, but you will see the beneifits later. Note: viola and violin are very close to eachother in the finger movements, shifting, vibrato, etc. Starting with either one, its not going to be very hard to switch to the other. However, viola also gives you a better understanding of the cello aswell, so the more mastery you have of that will also help you if you continue to learn stringed instruments in the future.
Im just going to warn you, it's pretty frustrating at the beginning because the learning process is kind of slow for about the first year because there is a lot to learn as far as technique goes. Dont worry if you feel like you are learning more slowly than you have on other instruments. Of all the instruments i play, I find the violin the most rewarding... :)

it's different for every person but in my opinion you should learn the violin first. it's basically a higher tune and overall it'll get you started on the basics like tuning different strings, hand positions, and pitches. learn the violin first, and when you learn the viola everything will fall into place and all you have to do is to get used to the lower notes and sounds

Violin because the viola uses the alto clef and it's bizarre... middle C is in the middle line.

Violin's treble clef is way more useful for sight reading and 4 part harmonies if you choose to study music in college or take AP music.

Learn Violin first, as it is slightly easier to learn.
