Underground metal or mainstream metal/rock? List your reasons for your preference, and state pros and cons of both. This is only for those who listen to metal. If you don't, poop on you.

Of the 2 choices I'd go with underground...Mainstream Rock lately is very formulaic and more focused on what the singers look like than how talented they are.

i would definitely say underground. i have watched most of the top mainstream acts within metal today move from the underground to the mainstream. this i feel has goven me a better appreciation and respect for the bands because you can watch them grow. the underground scene can also be very fresh and original, however there is a lot more s**t to sift through. but it is definitely worth it. knowing that you found a band on your own and watching them succeed is a great feeling. two big examples for me would be when i found lamb of god when they were still burn the priest or when i found slipknot in the MFKR pre-corey era. now i have actually buried myself underground it has been a long time since i have found a band that has burst onto the mainstream but i am glad cuz it sucks when they do. there may be lots of fans but i'm a fanatic and just don't feel at home. but i'll stop rambling, i think u hot a nerve.

That's a tough question. Personally, I prefer stuff from the 80's, and 90's, but I like some of the newer metal, as well. I guess it depends on how you categorize bands like Korn, Disturbed, and Pantera. If you categorize those as mainstream, then I guess I probably prefer mainstream. I don't like the stuff where it's just alot of yelling, and you cant' understand a thing they are saying.

With the occasional exception, I'm a fan of the underground. I live in a smallish valley-town & have limited radio options, so get REAL bored with anyhting mainstream very quickly.

Underground, some not all. Pro is that it's new it's original. Con is that most of it sucks, but sometimes you find the good stuff!

I prefer underground,
When metalica tried that sh*t, I realized mainstreem music is just about the money, not about the music.
But I like horrorcore rap, it's a really good mix of death metal and rap.
Twiztid are the founders of horrorcore rap.

I like rock...all the branches of rock
and groups like deftones, foo fighters, garbage...or lostprophets, rise against...also placebo cure and so on and so on
honestly I don't like metal

Hm... I like post grunge and alternative rock and sometimes adult alternative rock... I just like it because of the lyrics, the sound, and just the overall look of it all. :-)
