It is approximately between 10 and 12 hours. If you are worried about boredom on the plane, it shouldn't be much of an issue. They have movies playing all the time, and besides if it's a school trip you'll have your friends there, that will be entertaining!

From Amsterdam to Johannesburg International is 12 hours and 20 minutes. So if you're going direct to Cape Town from Amsterdam you're looking at 13 hours.
Including a flight and stopover time from Heathrow you're gonna be travelling for 16 to 17 hours.

Enjoy it and pack light.... take sunscreen!

In June I flew with KLM from Heathrow to Schipol (Amsterdam) and then Joburg. Surprisingly the whole flight with the connection was the same as a direct flight from London, 11 hours, 30 minutes to Schipol and 10 hours to SA, but the 1 hour break in Amsterdam made it seem so much shorter.

From Amsterdam to Cape Town (direct flight): 11 hours.

Add some time if you have to stop in Jo'burg. Jorbug -Cape Town = 2 hours.

it is going to take you about 11-12 hours like Alf above me has pronounced. What he forgot to inform, besides the grim crime subject, we actually have lions roaming the streets and save cheetahs in our yards. Africa remains contained in the darkish a lengthy time period some human beings tell me, with Cape city being the darkest of the darkish. inspite of each and every thing Cape city has purely been voted between the right 10 cities contained in the international. should be because they experience sorry for us in Darkest Africa. LOL. purely kidding. Crime is a controversy to administration in South Africa yet is nowhere on the breaking point of being the conflict-zone certain human beings make it out to be. Do take functional care of your self and also you'd be high quality. delight in it.

it takes 15 hours to fly from england to south africa jhb so you will be flying about 17 to 18 hours if you stop in amsterdam first

It depends if you are flying direct or to JHB then on to Cape Town.
The above times given by others are correct but a lot of KLM flights fly in to JHB and the you fly on to Cape Town. In this case you can add on a minimum of 4 hours.
