What exactly do you mean by "liberal"?
Technically speaking, conservatives want things to stay the same, and liberals want things to change. George Washington was a "liberal" because he wanted to change from monarchy to democracy. However, his policies, philosophy, and beliefs are radically different than what most would define as a "liberal" in today's political environment.
If you are referring to "liberals" in the modern US political system, I would say that ignorance is a defining characteristic. Please note that I'm not calling them stupid, but ignorant. Meaning they could become educated if they put forth the requisite time and effort.
This defining ignorance covers all aspect of current political issues including the economy, national defense, the nature of the Constitution, etc. When attempting to find solutions to problems, I believe most "liberals" have good intentions. However, their ignorance leads them to propose ridiculous "feel good" solutions that rarely, if ever, accomplish their goals.
There are certainly some "liberals" out there that are truly evil and desirous of nothing but their own power. However, I think the vast majority are simply to ignorant to make proper decisions and thus become pawns (useful idiots) of the real villains.

You've been listening to too much propaganda. I honestly think you have it backward, it sounds more like a conservative approach than a liberal one. The liberals I know, including myself, believe very much in responsibility and accountability. What I've seen of conservatives is that they are not responsible or accountable to anyone but themselves. Conservatives are very good at "passing the buck" when it comes to accountability.
To say that liberals believe in success without failure is just plain ridiculous. We know we don't get anywhere without learning from our mistakes.
I think you've either been hitting the pipe too much or you were raised by warped parents. You obviously don't know any liberals or you wouldn't make such ignorant statements.
Anyway, what makes a conservative a conservative? Money? Big deal. Have you guys found a way to take it with you when you are dead?
