well you didnt tell where are you from.. its most probably because of a slow internet connection..

maybe you are browsing too many websites at once..
maybe you are browsing AND downloading at once
maybe you are downloading a lot of stuff at once..

maybe there is a virus activity going on.. get a good FireWall in that case.. install Norton Internet Security or McAfee Personal Firewall to alert you of any suspicious activity

press Ctrl+Alt+Del and under the processes tab, end all suspicious processes

START> RUN> msconfig
under Startup tab, uncheck any suspicious process..

DO NOT try to terminate any essential process.. make sure the process u end really IS harmful or suspicious

clear your browser cache, cookies and history - this should be done daily

then run your scandisk
next - defrag your computer
these should be done at least once a month (depending on how much you shuffle files around from folder to folder - or rename files/folders - or surf the internet - or work with computer programs such as MS Word - Excel - Powerpoint - the more you work with them - the MORE you should be defragging - scandisk is more for fixing errors)

go to the link below and download internet explorer 7 or go to www.mozilla.org and download mozilla firefox. This should fix your problem.
otherwise phone up TalkTalk and get free 8 meg broadband forever like me... It's great, you get free calls to 01 and 02 numbers, and free international calls all for only £21 a month and the price includes line rental.
P.S. I prefer firefox.
