A few things off the top of my head -

1) Don't permit anti-LGBT language or jokes. Speak up when bigotry is expressed, just as you would do against sexism and racism.

2) Teach your children and family that hate is not a family value. Teach them that variety is what makes humans so fascinating. Different is just different, not better or worse than "normal."

3) Join PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and campaign for equal rights. They are also an excellent support group for those who are LGBT-friendly.

4) Don't forget to speak up against bigotry even in your house of worship. Unfortunately, some hate teaching can go on here as well.

Good for you for standing up for equal rights! You're welcome at my Thanskgiving table anytime, as I give thanks for people like you.

By simply being a friend to the community as a whole. That is to say, when you hear a joke and it is offencive, speak up. When you see homophobia, act. When you know someone is cruel to a gay person, step up.

Finally, be who you clearly are, someone who cares enough to ask how they can help, that's the first step, which is what this is. The rest is just spreading the idea.

Wide Awake says it best.

Cheers.

Be there friend. Do not judge them. And love them for who they are. Sexuality is all in a sensible realm, not the spiritual. I do not believe that there are accidents, we have a duty to love and protect each other no matter what. Speak the truth.Homosexuality has always been associated with deviance, if you know the truth and have friends who are gay you know that deviance has nothing to do with it. Love is blind and knows no color, race, sexuality, or social class, its just love. How can love be wrong- ever? Straight or Gay what does it have to do with love.
