I am muslim and wear a hijab and people always look at me as if I'm an Alien. I thought America was supposed to be a place where everyone is equal yet people are always quick to judge and stare. I am not saying everyone does this ( my friends all of which are different races and relegions don't).

Are We All Really that Different?

Why is it whenever I go outside
People always stare
As an equal human being
I find this unfair

Why are you quick to judge
When I have done nothing wrong
You look at me as if
I'm the freakiest thing you've sawn

Can't you accept
That I am different from you
Because whenever I see someone different
I accept them too

I don't dress that differently, I wear skirts and shirts from the mall and I've never worn a hijab that doesn't match my outfit. Most ofl my friends and teacher's say i should be voted best dressed, and one of my teacher's call me "Ms. Fashion" yet people still stare.

Dont let it get to u. people stare at things they know less about or are curious about. later they wont stare. And after 911, things got worse. But stay strong and carry on as a muslim. You are doing the right thing and be confident. Somethin caught my attention though, there are ppl that still stare at u, even after islam and hijab are so well-known. I cant believe there r ppl still like that, are they out of the world or what??!!

I dont think that they are staring out of suspicion or hate (always). You have to remember, that is not a common form of dressing in the US. We all know that all muslims are not evil. Many are, many are not. It is just a cultural thing. I am sure that if an American woman dressed as an American, would receive many stares also in a muslim country that dresses differently.

Dont take it the wrong way, it is curiosity. Many think, as have I, "is that comfortable", "how can you breathe", "is it hot", ""

Some people are racist *******. They will do whatever they can to make other people feel worse so they can feel better.

Some people are nervous--rightly or wrongly--because they have heard about muslim suicide bombers, and they think everyone is out to get them.

Other people are curious because you dress differently, and they're just taking it all in because they haven't seen a hijab before. Especially in rural areas.

Most people mean no harm, but are just curious about you and your beliefs. It is a difficult position to be in to have to represent a whole group, but be kind to others and have pride in yourself and your culture, and people will start to see you for what's in your head and not what's on it.

It's not you personally its everyone of different cultures.
America has been attacked and we are leery of everyone.
We have opened our borders and been slapped in the face for it so naturally we are a little edgy.
I'm sorry this is happening to you as a person.
I can not imagine what you must be going through.
There are allot of rude people in the world, not just in America though.

I don't know that people are really staring at you b/c of the way you dress or your religion. People often stare at thing that interest them or people or things they want to learn more about.

I'm 6'7''. Go figure. People are scared of me. Maybe you should try to adapt to the local dress. I did after I learned that highwaters weren't cool anymore.... when I was 12.

When I go for a stroll in the park naked, people always stare then too. I don't know why.

To the person who gave me the thumbs down: You know you would stare at me too!
