I placed an advert on gumtree.co.uk which was for a cooker for sale. A man emailed me about it for more info and then said he would like to buy it. He said he will trust me by sending me a cheque for £3000 and i have to deduct £200 for the cooker to myself and forward the rest on to his lawyer who will then arrange pickup of the cooker as well as other items he has bought with the remainder of the money. He has asked for my name and address to send the cheque to. Do you think he is up to something? it sound a little iffy to me.

Listen if it is not a straight foward payment and send, do not bother. It sounds like more of a hassle to me than anything.

Good Luck!

This sounds like a scam to me. Why can't he just send the 200$ check to you and send his own check to the lawyer. I've heard of scams like this but they usually want to deposit the money directly into your bank account and will need all of your personal and banking information and it always involves a lawyer. Why would he trust some RANDOM person like you with $2800? Don't trust this person!

The is a very old scam. Don't do it. The check is no good, but you won't find that out until you forward your own money to cover it.

People don't trust their instincts enough, if your instincts are telling you it's a bad idea, then it's a bad idea.
