If you're looking for something new, you should give womenfolk.net a look-see. It's a song blog by a very articulate, thoughtful music aficionado. Each month, he (I believe his name is Robbie) spotlights a handful of new artists... some of whom, in fact, are so new they don't even have a CD out yet. Used to be Robbie only reviewed female artists, but he's started including links to the odd male singer/band as well (see 'The Menfolk' in the nav bar on the right).

Most months, there's a mix of different kinds of singers. Robbie's write-ups present a short bio of the featured artists (previous work, type of music, personal impressions, etc.) and usually include at least one song that you can listen to online before deciding if you want to download it for free. Where the artists have a Website, the link is given.

If you visit womenfolk.net in following months or if you search the archives, you'll find you can no longer download the songs. I believe that's to protect the artists. Part of Robbie's disclaimer reads, "Womenfolk's purpose is to promote music. Naturally, if you enjoy what you hear from the site, I strongly encourage you to support the artist and buy their respective album or compilation."

Go over to http://womenfolk.net/ for a look/listen at November's rich crop of artists.
