In September, I bought a Delta Half Moon betta with a dark blue body & pure white fins. His fin colors have gradually changed to blue with a tinge of red. His fins have also gone from being "half moon" in shape to being long & thin, like a regular betta.

What can I do to "change him back" to what he looked like when I bought him? I keep him in a 1 gallon fish bowl at room temperature, with a plant & decorations. He is being fed a "color enhancing" food.

(Serious, helpful answers only, please.)

Betta fins typically change with stress and sickness. Both cause the bettas fins to waste away. Even a veil tail can have what thin fins it does have waste away. No offense but get over that "color enhancing" food thing. feeding that food and not doing anything else will do very little or nothing for your bettas color. Feed him nutrient rich foods. Hand raised live foods are good. Only feed live foods once a week and only if you know where it came from. Live food can introduce parasites and disease so use them carefully. Feed freeze dried foods. These are great! Feed them at most every other day since they are rich. I use freeze dried blood worms. Next feed the pellets. These can be the every day food. Don't forget to fast your betta once a week, He may give horrible "stares" and act like he is going to die if you do not feed him but he won't. It will give him a chance to clean out his system and live healthier. Next you need to change his water once a week. Treat it as needed and change it! Changing it is very important. Next he needs room to swim. If you don't use your arm very much it gets weaker and wastes away eventually. Same with a bettas fins. He uses them to swim. My bettas live in a one gallon bowl with a single plant and a thermometer. I keep the plant and the thermometer in a corner so that my bettas have room to swim. And they love it! So you may want to remove the decorations and give him some room. Give it time. My betta (male veil tail marble) got sick and wasted away. His body was more interested in keeping him alive then nourishing his fins. So he lived but his fins suffered (I am fine with that. I am do happy he is still alive). It has taken around two months for his fins to perk back up to what they used to be. It takes time. Give it a few months, some TLC, and the above suggestions and thats about all you can do. Showing him some love probably wouldn't hurt either.

The question is a little confusing because the Show Betta association defines delta as any tail smaller than a half moon and larger than the veil tail. Anyways either way if the tail has reverted to a standard shape the betta may have been mutilated to have the look of a more expensive fish, or he may have been stressed causing the rays of the tail to become weakened (it's like the killer whales dorsal fins sagging in captivity) It is irreversable, sell the betta and get a new one if it is important to you.

He's probably stressed out by something.
Upgrade your tank to a 5 gal. with a filter and aeration. Add a few 'soft' decorations (meaning no sharp edges).
Add a small heater to make the temp. about 75 - 80 degrees (F), so it could be more constant.
Keep feeding the food you're giving him plus a variety of other foods.
