My guess is there is alot more to this story. This sounds like a weird situation--and I'm curious as to how long this has been going on. He obviously feels comfortable with this routine. There are alot of ways to handle this--legal action to obtain a restraining order comes to mind (but there must be some reason you have chosen not to go this route). You could ask a guy (friend or relative) to stay over and intervene for you to get him to stop. I'm surprised you're able to shut your eyes and go to sleep--so something tells me you are not afraid of him physically hurting you. Have you even talked to him about this matter? Good Luck

LOCK THE DOOR! For goodness sake, do you want to get murdered in your bed...or WORSE! Get a dog or get a fire escape door fitted but please stop sleeping with the door unlocked. That is madness...and should anything happen you will have no comeback. You are not even insured against theft if the door is unlocked.
Maybe if this creep knew that you know what he is doing he would stop so tell him that the next time you hear him you will call the police IMMEDIATELY. ..and do it! He has to be stopped.

Ask him why he does this. If that doesn't work call the police on him. Lock the back door and get lots of fire alarms. If none of that works u could always sneak into his house and start doing that so he knows how weird it is.

This is very strange, is he normally a 'normal' person? Have you ever thought about going and asking him what the hell he is doing?? Im sorry but do you think I could just let someone stay in my house, uninvited while I was asleep??? What are you thinking?? If you are scared what will happen, then take your mobile to bed and next time he does it, call the police! And for gosh sake, lock your doors you weirdo!

by not locking the door you are asking for trouble.
place a table in the door way so when he walks into it it'll make a noise so you can get up and say "what the **** are you doing? this isnt your house you live next door!" and then dial the police to sort him out.

get yourself a dog.
a doberman, rottie, g.sheppard.
something with a big bark.
if you don't want to buy one or rescue one then do you have a friend or relative with a big dog?
perhaps they could stay at yours with it for a week.
failing this ring the police!
this is downright creepy and totally not on!
also if you can overcome your fear you must lock your doors for security reasons.
your currently leaving yourself, possessions and your home not only vulnerable to this idiot, but it's also an open invitation to burglers!
please take this into consideration for your own safety hon.
best of luck

Perhaps talking to him and telling him he is uninvited and the next time he shows up you will have him arrested. Well either that or leave a bucket of battery acid next to the fire escape for him to step in.
