Yes, I did. I had mild period cramps for two days, I thought it was braxton hicks. They were not painful just a little uncomfertable and a little erratic, sometimes five minutes apart somtimes ten minutes apart for two days. I was told to go to the hospital by my family as we were at a barbeque so my boyfriend and I went to the hospital without our packed bag or anything and were admitted because I was 4cm dialated and they keep you when your that far along and its your first baby. So it is very possible. The nurses and staff were even talking about me saying I might be one of the very few women who have no labour pains because I was not in pain smiling laughing and doing crosswords and walking around like normal.
Another six hours later after being admitted I dialated to 5 cm, and was put on pictocin had my membranes ruptured and my water broken and then after another 13 hours I finally had my baby. They had to give me oxytocin as well to regulate my contractions.

I just had a baby 3 months ago and at my 36 week appointment I was dilated to a 4 (after having no real contractions) I stayed like that until 39 weeks. They also stripped my membranes at 38 weeks saying it might progress things, but it didn't do anything. I went in at 39 weeks having regular contractions and still dilated to a 4, they started to send me home but I felt pressure, they checked again and I was at a 6, the delivery went really fast from that point. Just be glad that your body is slowly doing the hard part before hard labor starts instead of sitting in a hospital bed waiting to dilate one more centimeter while feeling strong contractions, you're at home! Either way you're almost full term, it won't be too long. Congratulations!

I'm 36 weeks and was checked on Monday, I was 1 cm and 50% effaced and I haven't' even had any Braxton Hicks contractions.
Having your membranes stripped can send you into labor the same day, or not at all. It's a guessing game.

This is perfectly normal - even common. It's also a good thing! It's a good indication you will dilate relatively easy in labor. Since you are due anyway I would expect you to go into labor within the next couple of days.
I once had a patient walk around 5 cm. dilated for 5 weeks before she went into labor. Relax!

i had a friend who got to 6 without knowing it. i have been having irregular contractions for 3 weeks and i am only at 1. i go in this tuesday to be induced if i dont get anywhere by then. i was in labor with hard contractions for 5 DAYS with my first (spent those days in the hospital)and only got to 8 before i pushed him out and tore myself in thirty million pieces so consider yourself extremely lucky. good luck to you and the new baby. relax and enjoy!

Yes, you can stay dilated for weeks before actually going into labor. It is your body preparing and getting ready. It is normal, just remember to get to the hospital when your water breaks. I took my time when my water broke and almost got an infection. it is important to go ahead asap when it breaks.
good luck

I was 2cm dialated for the last month of my pregnancy. Dialation doesnt mean you're in labor, though.
