Look, the MVP award is not about overall stats which Jeter had. The MVP is about being the guy that brings your team the success it needs which morneu did down the stretch. The yanks are full of stars, thats the problem with being great on that team. If Jeter went down they have A-rod right there who is the best shortstop in the game today not to mention many other bats, so would jeter going down hurt the team at all? Not much if at all. If Justin Morneu went down the twins would not have made the play offs so tell me now why Jeter is more valuable to the yankees?

sorry kimtastic you dont deserve any credit re-read my post, i admitted stats were not everything and never brought up the fact JM had better stats then DJ, you did. Also I do watch yankee games so i can have a say in that which you also admitted that when jeter was struggling the other players picked up the slack and the team was successful. Now who do you think caught the games for santana and nathin? JM, catchers are so far underrated. Look at pudge-rod...did great in FL and helped develop young pitchers, do you think it's any coincidence

I have been waiting for a while to go on a major rant so here it goes:

Kimtastic: You argue that it should be the MVS award. Yes, it is called the MVP award, and as a matter of fact, Morneau was the Most Valueable Player. Jeter had a great year but he also hit in a much better line-up. I will do a quick comparison for you

Twins Yankees
Mauer: .347, 13, 84 Cano: .342, 15, 78
Cuddyer: .284, 24, 109 Giambi: .253, 37, 113
Hunter: .278, 31, 98 A-Rod: .290, 35, 121
Castillo: .296, 3, 49 Damon: .285, 24, 80
Punto: .290, 1, 45 Abreu: .330, 7, 42
Bartlett: .309, 2, 32 Posada: .277, 23, 93

Simply look at those numbers. If you tell me Jeter is more important to the Yankees line-up, than Morneau is to the Twins, you need get over your little crush for Jeter.

ETW,

What does that stand for Enormously Tiny Wiener?

1) Yes Justin Morneau was the MVP of the Twins. Ask Mauer, Ask Santana, ask Liriano, ask every single Twins fan and they will say Morneau was the twins MVP.

2) From June 7th to the end of the season, nobody, not Jeter, not Mauer, nobody had a better batting average than Morneau(.362). Also on this date the Twins were in fourth place. It was Morneau who got the Twins going offensively and mainly because of him, the Twins won the Division.

3) I will give you some advice, if you don't know something, don't go off and make yourself look like an idiot the way you do. Morneau went a few games were he sat out against lefties, in June not July. With a batting average of .255, it shows how hot Morneau got to be able to raise his average to .321 in half of a season.

VIXENLUVA

There isn't a problem about Jeter playing for the Yankees, but when people say that if you take Jeter out of the line-up, it falls apart, then you are nothing but a complete stooge. Morneau makes a greater difference when taken out of the Twins line-up than Jeter and the Yankees line-up.

By the way what does it mean when you say "if you ANYTHING about baseball you should shut your trap"

GANNON J

Are you saying that Jeter should be the MVP because A-Rod had mental issues and a long hitting streak? Then you'd agree that Jimmy Rollins should have won the MVP last year because Pat Burell had mental issues and he had a long hitting streak. Right?

From the looks of it Jeter did not do a lot to deal with A-Rod's mental issues. A-Rod was isolated in the clubhouse and from what Sheffield said, nobody tried to pick him up. You would think that a great captain would try to help out a struggling player, rather than let the team isolate him.

EXOCET,

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone who read what you say is now dumber for reading it.

"it is rewarding the most valuable player on the team that plays meaningful games in september"

The Yankees did not play a meaningful game in September. They had already won the division and were able to put it into cruise control.
The Twins on the other hand were in third place and 6 games behind the Tigers. They played in meaningful games in September.

Right there you argue against Jeter:
-It was the Twins who played meaningful games in September, and Justin Morneau was the MVP of the Twins.

I thank you for making the case for Morneau.

IN CLOSING, JUSTIN MORNEAU WON THE MVP. HE DESERVED IT AND YOU IDIOT YANKEES FANS WILL NEVER HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF ACCEPTING THE FACT. SO IT IS POINTLESS TO EVEN TRY TO ENLIGHTEN YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE TOO CAUGHT UP WITH YOUR ADDICTIONS TO JETER.

MORNEAU MVPS=1
JETER MVPS=0

I didnt think arod was the Best all around Shortstop in game when he played SS. The bat was unquestioned, but ild take Vizquels glove. Anyways, thats beside the point. The Point of the MVP Genius is not the most indespensible player to a Team offensively. It is for the Player who has meant the most ALL AROUND to his team over the course of the Year. Morneau was not that on Minnesota, he was their Offensive MVP, but The Thing that drove the Twins was Santana and Liriano and Joe Nathan. The Yankee Pitching is a Mess, and When Guys were dropping like Flies, Two people CARRIED the Yankees... Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi. Giambi tailed off after a few months, but Jeter maintained his level of play right up thru when they discovered how useful Cabrera, Philips, Guile, and the other Junior yankees were to the Team. You do NOT need to Hit 50 HRs, to carry a Team..and That is what Jeter did. There was a 2 to 3 month span where if Jeter wasnt hitting or Giambi wasnt hitting THERE WAS NO HITTING! And if you lifted yer head from the anti yankee crap, and WATCHED A COUPLE OF THEIR GAMES, you would know that. You take Jeter off the yankees this passed season and they wouldve had serious problems and probably went and made a really panicked stupid trade for a hitter. Morneau was a huge part of the Twins Offense this year, but he could have hit 60 HRs, and no Liriano or Santana and he would have been irrelevant. The Argument is not whether Morneau was deserving, because he was, the argument is whether he was more deserving than Derek Jeter or even David Ortiz and Hell no! he wasnt. Everyone looks at numbers.. jeter will never have the power numbers Morneau or any other slugger has, he is a 2 hitter. But by dismissing the amazing numbers he put up for a 2 hitter deminishes leadoff guys and second hitters.... tell ya what, why not just call the Award The MVS Most Valuable SLugger, and say right off that those without 125rbi and 30HRs are not eligible right off so there isnt even any confusion..it's such BullSh*t. Jeter lost because sum ****** writers in KC, Minnie, Missouri, Milwaukee, Colorado, etc... Where NOT voting for a New York Yankee. PERIOD.

Dude..you didnt even know Justin Morneau wasnt the Twins Catcher..that would be JOE MAUER! you are disqualified, *buzzz* please leave the stage..you shouldnt be allowed to post to baseball section anymore LOL

I would love to point out just how wrong you are

1st off, Morneau wasnt even the MVP on his team. That went to the Catcher, Joe Mauer.
2nd off, if Jeter went down the Yankees would be nothing like the team they are now. They barely survived without him when he dislocated his shoulder 2 years ago.
3rd off, the MVP actually is about overall statistics (see Ryan Howard).
4th Jeter was better than Morneau.

You say that Morneau helped his team more down the stretch

Well...Morneau was benched in July...he was batting .255...
Jeter had the second highest batting average in baseball this year. He also outhomered Morneau 7-6 down the stretch that you claim Morneau was red hot down.

Jeter should have won MVP. You know nothing if you say Morneau was a bigger help to his team than Jeter was to the Yankees.

That is why Yankees fans are pissed, because he lost to a guy who wasnt even the MVP on his team. Had he lost to Mauer, Santana, Dye, or Ortiz the outcry would not have been nearly this bad.

Bcuz A-rod was goin through some mental issues during the season. Jeter was carrying the yankees. Jeter is the captain and the player that goes all out for every ball. He also came through for them in the clutch, and dont forget he had a hitting streak goin on at the end of the year. You can't replace Jeter. A-rod is better fundamentaly, Jeter is the heart of the Yankees.

Jeter they say is between the main over rated gamers in baseball on the instant, and doubtless there is a few certainty to that. whilst a newborn is 5 years previous and he needs his first yankee jersey it rather is probably gonna be a Jeter Jersey and he prob doesnt additionally recognize who tht is. yet Jeter is enjoyed via veteran yankee followers for glaring reasons. the certainty that this guy has a profession batting well-known of .317 or tht he has long previous to the all action picture star pastime purely approximately each year of his profession, gained rookie of the year, mvp of worldwide sequence in 2000. And has the final danger out of anyplayer enjoying on the instant to realize 4,000 hits

props to Kimtastic cuz she speaks the truth and one other thing...is it jeters fault that he plays in the yankees...i dont think so...and if you read the stats jeter beat morneu in every catergory except homeruns and RBI but you cant expect homeruns from a contact hitter and RBI's from a second hitter...so if you ANYTHING about baseball you should shut you trap!!!
