Why don't you go ask the person you are talking about instead.

Probably because they can not properly care for their parents anymore because of Alzheimers, Dementia, etc. Other reasons are that both generations sometimes have a difficult time getting along, which can be very stressful for both sides. Money is not always the issue here. So what if such a person has 5 dogs and an SUV.
I'm not saying that what they're doing is either right or wrong. Each situation is unique.

Well it saddens me to say, but soon I don't think my siblings and I will have a choice with our Mother.....she has alhizmers....I don't even know how to spell it yet...but anyways, we always, always said we would not do that. But, when you live through it, things change. She will very soon need constant care. It's getting hard for her to remember how to swallow her meds. That's the bad one. Let alone, going to the restroom, showering, eating, etc. She really doesn't even talk anymore. Just yes and no things usually. So try not to judge untill you've been there. And I'm sure there are many other reasons.

Sometimes it isn't about cost but about care. Some elderly people need intensive medical care that families are unable to provide.
Don't judge people's situations from outside looking in. The reality is likely very different that what you perceive.

Nursing Homes are very expensive. it isn't about the money, it's about the care. when people get old they get very feeble and sick. even a small infection can spread so rapidly that it could kill them. they need to have medical professionals around them at all times. plus sometimes they get so weak that they can't even go to the bathroom by themselves anymore. to keep them at home without a live-in nurse would make you a 24 hour babysitter.
