I have gotten best answer several times for this:
Start icing as soon as you feel one coming on- at least for 1 hour
Use Campho-phenique often - I do it hourly
Apply white (non gel) toothpaste at bedtime.
I have tried everything and researched some crazy remedies. This is cheap, fast and effective.

You could try carmex. It comes in a white small jar with a yellow top. This is simular to blistex but better. Cold sores will come out more when you are stressed.
