I am 8 months, anemic and take iron supplements. First off-your Dr. will prescribe what he wants you to take. As for the iron, sometimes they can make you constipated, so make sure you have a stool softener, like Colace around just in case.

You could've been borderline because you had fasted for the glucose test and your body was out of wack. Just follow the advice on taking your prenatal vitamins and/or pump up the iron induced foods.

I was borderline anemic and didn't have to do anything. I didn't take iron supplements or anything, just my prenatal vitamins and I tried to choose foods high in iron (spinach over lettuce, steak over chicken, beans over rice) and I was totally fine. Worst case scenario: you will have to take iron supplements. It's very common.

Your doctor may give you extra iron with your prenatal. It is good you found out before it got to bad.

Side effects for me are constipation (you can combat that with a healthy diet), dry skin and sometimes I feel nauseated. Don't take them on an empty stomach. It can make your stomach really hurt.
