ok, let me clarify the directions:
this is what the teacher put___
Research or explore a topic that could be an important element in your personal success in this point of your life. Your topic can be anything. Success has to do in part with one's ability to evaluate one's situation in life, to decide what one needs to know or how one needs to grow in order to change for the better, and finall, to acquire the appropriate information or experience one needs in order to change and grow.
now does anybody have ideas?

Your teacher doesn't want to hear about successful people, s/he wants to hear about you! Think of something that you're very good at, in or out of school, academic, sports, whatever. Why are you good at it, and how could you become better?
Or, and this would be great, think of something you suck at but would love to be able to do well. Find the qualities in you that would help you become good at it...perseverance, open to guidance, willing to practice, etc. You could have a good time with this one!

Research a successful person, such as Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, or any one else that has become successful through hard work and intelligence etc ( not luck). You will then have a thesis that would read , Looking at the success of ______________ it is clear that one formula for success is ________________.

How about a personal success story? Find a famous person, a self-made millionaire or whatever, and research their life. Your research will be about how the person achieved success on their own. Hope this helps.

you can write about what qualities in people lead to success. define success. people have conducted research that success often comes from people skills, not just brains. it would be a tough paper to write, but if you pulled it off im sure your teacher would be very impressed.
